Cultural branding: space for visual exploration.

ZOOM is a non-profit cultural association, mainly focused on monthly movie screenings, in the main Theatre in Barcelos, Portugal. The association needed a refreshed communication strategy. The focus on eye-catching images and a bold typography, combined with a consistent communication, became the key to attracting new attendees to events that were once desperate for public.

A template for a collaborative visual identity

Given ZOOM’s close ties to an art school, my idea was to create a template that allowed different designers and artists to produce each month’s visuals, encouraging participation from the local community. To maintain brand consistency, I designed a simple layout that could be easily updated each month, with the image as the main element of differentiation. The program appears on top of the image, placed inside blocks that reference the modular design of the logo.

2022-onwards

Monthly creative playground

Since 2022, I’ve adopted a flexible praxis for the posters, a creative playground which allows me to experiment with different styles and tools every month. Each poster is crafted through an analysis of the films in each series, aiming to visually capture their atmosphere and shared themes. I try to prioritize provocative and impactful graphic solutions that not only highlight the programming but also give the audience a sense of the mood they can expect from each film series.

3D modeling for extra possibilities

I’ve been using Blender to explore new visual dimensions in posters, expanding beyond traditional 2D design.

AI as a tool for mood creation

With the help of AI, I create images that reflect the mood of the movies featured in the month’s program.

A curated series exploring the unique perspectives of young Portuguese filmmakers, all of whom delve into themes of youth and contemporary issues.
I created the visual identity and promotional materials for the series, including the brochure, posters, and video.
